This is one of my favourite songs too by Teresa. It is sung so beautifully and with so much feeling that it is one of those many songs where Teresa’s artistry enables you to understand the underlying meaning without understanding the words. My mother love her song and this is one of her song we play in my mothers funeral, the beautiful voice and lyric always bring me to tear. Thank you for sharing.
Many of her songs in her early careers were limited to folk songs and ballads, as those were more familiar to almost everybody. As she matured and her vocal range broader, she was tasked for songs with profound meanings and implications. During her training in Japan, she emerged as a superstar and had her hands in almost everything. But if you listened carefully, her vocal is more apt to slower tempo and shorter versed lyrics. She is not like an opera singer by any means.
